[KiniNews] Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim today defended his "maha kaya" remark in his Budget 2024 last Friday, saying that he was neither against the “ultra rich” group nor trying to oppress them.
He stressed that the government only intended to slash subsidies for the wealthiest 10 percent in Malaysia as they do not need such sedekah (charity) to survive and was not imposing additional tax on them
"But when I mention this, some would say I’m against the rich. But this is not about oppressing the rich, it just means that if you are already rich, you should not receive sedekah (charity)," he said.
Meanwhile, in a separate story, DAP national chairperson Lim Guan Eng has criticised Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow for throwing unfounded accusations that will cause confusion amongst the public.
He added that to date, Chow has not been able to furnish any proof of a plot by DAP members to topple him.
