[KiniNews] In yet another bid to “save the Malays” through returning political dominance, former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad announced the formation of a Malay secretariat committee as a “big umbrella” for the community.
Mahathir said the committee would serve as a platform to address issues affecting the Malay community that the government had failed to resolve.
Former law minister Zaid Ibrahim has expressed scepticism on the plans, saying such attempts to consolidate Malay political forces in the past have failed and it's time for the opposition to rethink their approach.
Adding further, Zaid said the opposition needs to offer the people a new front that is “real, credible, and inspiring” to defeat the Anwar Ibrahim-led government.
Meanwhile, in a separate story, former Umno politician Khairy Jamaluddin repeated his disinterest in reentering politics, saying he has a good life as a podcaster and radio host.
“I’m enjoying a good life right now, why would I want to leave this?” he said.
