[KiniNews] The whistleblower who exposed the Sabah corruption scandal is now set to be charged on June 30, a move his lawyer, Mahajoth Singh, described as both “shocking and disappointing”.
“My client’s disclosures, at serious personal risk, have greatly benefited the public interest. It is shocking and disappointing that my client is to be ‘rewarded’ with being charged with a criminal offence,” Mahajoth said.
Earlier today, MACC chief commissioner Azam Baki said the agency will charge two Sabah assemblypersons and a civilian in court soon.
Meanwhile, in a separate story, an aide to Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, in his capacity as finance minister, said the government is open to reviewing the expanded sales and service tax (SST), which will take effect from July 1.
Kamil Abdul Munim reportedly said the legislation is not divine law, it’s human legislation, so, there’s no issue if adjustments or improvements are needed.
